A subscription isn’t just the obvious - Regain your time, money and life
We sign up to life and all that it offers. But equally important is to check back in from time to time and remind ourselves what we actually need, what are we using and benefitting from or even enjoying! Just continuing regardless can put undue pressure on ourselves and our wallet. Time perhaps to rethink and consider.
Three little things, with areas perhaps you haven’t even thought of -
Top to toe
We often sign up to a Dentist, GP’s, Optician, Vets, Hairdressers, Gym/Fitness classes and never think to ever move or go elsewhere. They’re all run as businesses (even in the medical sector) and it’s worth remembering this. Often we continue for years, despite not being happy with the service or perhaps ignoring the continued price increase, or even paying for more than we actually require. Unfortunately sometimes this is due to pressure or even scare mongering, especially with our health or that of a pet. We don’t always need what we’re being told we do. We don’t owe our continued support and money unless we are getting the service we want. It’s easy to forget we have a choice.
Literally
Look at those monthly and yearly Direct debits, which of the memberships or subscriptions are we actually benefitting from? The umpteenth TV/film channels (surely we can all only watch so much in an evening!), the newspapers/magazines digital or paper (perhaps another pressure to actually get through them), hobbies and interest subscription (perhaps no longer interested), bank and credit card monthly fees (what are you getting/needing from this), Insurances (are they needed or being duplicated), Amazon & Audible (still enjoying the benefit?).
Often we sign up forgetting to then cancel and those Direct Debits keep coming out. Beware of the silent automatic renewals! Time to remind ourselves and consider what we’re actually using and benefitting from. We don’t owe the companies anything.
Metaphorically
We get used to everything in our life continuing in the same pattern, but not always to our benefit though. Perhaps this includes how we spend our time and with whom. The job we’re in, is it still serving you and taking you to the place you want to be. The friendships or relationships that may have become habit and no longer feel like a chosen sanctuary. We don’t ever consider automatic renewals on the mental subscriptions in our life. The commitments we make to please others, the obligations and patterns that are perhaps draining us of our emotional time and not fulfilling us with the joy we’d hoped. Time to cancel those subscriptions that don’t work any more.
